The digitalization of products and channels in the consumer goods industry has created new opportunities for companies to better serve their consumers while capturing willingness-to-pay. Managing the omnichannel experience for the consumer, and embracing digital developments in business will be a key driver for competitive advantage.

Consumer goods companies need to ensure their pricing is fair and defendable cross-channel to survive in this new digital era. Manufacturers and retailers need clear guidelines, especially for their salesforce. It is easier said than done because these companies often need to fix a historically grown plethora of prices, trade terms and promotions, across regions, channels and customers.

These opportunities and threats call for increased leadership in international revenue growth management with a clear sight on the legislative agenda. Successful companies limit value leakage and harmonization risks by focusing on commercially and legally defendable strategic price structures between channels, countries and international (key) accounts. This also includes capabilities across digitalization, consumer prices, promotions, trade terms and key account management.
