You’re invited to our Protiviti Roundtable meeting on Tuesday 17 May 2022 | 15:00-17:30 CEST, because your organization is listed as a SWIFT member institution. The theme of this session is "SWIFT security in 2022: how to prepare for security attestation in a turbulent world".
SWIFT Customer Security programme
SWIFT, the global provider of secure financial messaging services, designed the Customer Security Programme (CSP) to increase transparency and visibility on cyber security of all members of the SWIFT community. The CSP was created in 2016 after a $1 Billion cyber heist on the platform using malware to perform fraudulent payments on behalf of the Bank of Bangladesh. SWIFT requires that all 11,000+ SWIFT Member Institutions comply with SWIFT’s Customer Security Programme (CSP) in order to protect all members from security breaches and potential financial losses. The current geopolitical situation is directly affecting the SWIFT network and its members, increasing the threat level to business critical systems including the SWIFT related systems. It is very clear that protection of critical business and financial systems is of utmost importance to protect against cyber-attacks.
Mandatory annual independent assessment
Since 2017 all SWIFT member must attest to the efficacy of the mandatory security controls outlined in the Customer Security Controls Framework (CSCF) annually. From 2021 onwards, SWIFT requires members to perform an independent assessment to support the attestation. The SWIFT CSCF now includes 22 mandatory controls and 9 advisory controls that underpin the objectives and principles of controls framework. These controls are intended to help mitigate specific cybersecurity risks that SWIFT users may be exposed to.
