Why would international IT service organizations consider (further) introducing cloud based solutions, and what would subsequently be needed in capabilities and governance to deliver on these expectations?

The concept of cloud computing is offering the promise of significant benefits to businesses in the area of delivering IT services with reduced cost levels, solid (on demand self-) service provisioning with rapid elasticity, broad internet based access, faster dissemination of new features in software as well as a possibility for a more variable pay-per-use model. It also allows the internal IT department of international IT service organizations to focus on the value-add services to the business, where the cloud service providers deliver non-core services. This was the thesis of a research at Nyenrode University of Kees Bink, Business IT manager at Nutreco.

Aim of the round table
The aim of the round table is to bring more insight in which capabilities are relevant for an internal IT organization to realize the opportunities that cloud solutions offer, while addressing the various additional risk elements. The brokerage role shifts around cloud can be adopted by commercial parties (e.g. IT service providers) but especially in mid- to large size enterprises the internal IT delivery organization could also be enabled to take up this role. The research of Kees Bink seeks to make a first contribution to this gap in knowledge on the required capabilities and related governance needed to fulfill this additional capability to ‘be a broker’ as internal IT department, focusing on organizations that are large enough to have an internal IT organization.

For whom is this interesting?
The round table is particularly aimed at IT Managers, CIO’s and IT Business Managers of enterprises with an international IT service organization.

Main questions

• Why would mid- to larger size organizations consider (further) introducing cloud based solutions?
• What would subsequently be needed in capabilities and governance to deliver on these expectations?
• What are the typical characters of an international cloud oriented IT services organization?
