The opportunity

EY is looking for a Quantitative Manager with an investments background to join the Insurance Investments advisory team within EY Actuarial Services in our Amsterdam office. The Insurance Investments team works with clients in financial services with regulatory/risk and transformation (modelling) challenges in areas such as valuation and market risk. The team works closely with other financial services practitioners, such as Technology Consulting, bringing together the range of quantitative modelling and the consulting skillsets needed to support clients’ often highly specific and complex requirements.

The team also forms part of the EMEIA Investment Advisory team, comprised of 70 members with significant investment experience from a range of sectors including life and non-life insurance, pensions and asset management. Together, our team works across disciplines to form one of the most uniquely diverse investment teams in the market. Our comprehensive range of skills allows us to provide investment-related advice across an extensive range of hot topics.

Your key responsibilities

  • Participate in (quantitative) Investment advisory engagements in the area of Balance Sheet and Capital optimization as well as Valuation Services.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel in order to make our Insurance Investments consultancy business grow further
  • Perform investments related audit support for financials services audit engagements, applying a mindset to optimize the efficiency of these engagements (e.g. applying automatization techniques, leveraging global EY teams and knowledge)
  • Be proactive member of the EMEIA team and share local insights to the wider team, perform commercial activities at the EMEIA level, selling business across Europe
  • Work effectively as a team member sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication, coaching and developing junior team members
  • Build strong internal relationships within the Business Consulting practice, EMEIA Investment Advisory and across other services
  • Contribute to performance feedback for staff and help them build their career
  • Contribute to people initiatives including recruiting and retaining EYA professionals
  • Maintain an educational program to continually develop personal skills

To qualify for the role you must have

  • 5-8 years of experience in Financial Services, either as part of an institution; in an advisory or business consulting capacity to such organizations or in the regulation of such institution
  • Strong academic background including at least a Master’s degree in quantitative finance, math, engineering or equivalent.
  • Experienced in one or more of the following topics: Market Risk, Illiquid assets, Derivative Pricing, Institutional investments/Asset management, Financial Services Regulation and Balance Sheet and Capital Optimization.
  • Modelling background, including experience in model development and model validation of risk and valuation models and experience of standard techniques used.
  • Ability to drive business development and contribute to the growth of the EY market solutions
  • Project, client and stakeholder management experience

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Professional Qualification e.g. CFA / AAG / FRM
  • Experience in any of the following software development environments: Python / R / VBA / Java / C++ / SQL / Matlab / .NET
  • Experience in AI and Machine Learning
