Captive Advisor – Strategic Risk Consulting

Role

The primary FTE role is to take on a supporting position to Italy based Director of Captive Advisory Western Europe (“DoCA”) in the Strategic Risk Consulting (“SRC”) unit at Willis Towers Watson Risk & Analytics (“R&A”).  You will work in unison with the DoCA in creating new captive consultancy and captive management opportunities from the Willis Towers Watson CRB network, as well as arising from direct or personal contacts/network. This is primarily focused on Western Europe and will require the need to be present in the office for at least 1/2 days, each working each week.

You will represent SRC and Global Captive Practice (“GCP”) interests with WTW brokers and colleagues from SRC in helping to promote our Captive Consulting services, including providing general technical advisory and support on utilisation of captives.

NEW BUSINESS

  • To lead in the development of new business for the Company
  • Provide proactive creation of a marketing and new business strategy.
  • Implement marketing and new business strategy.
  • Identify new business opportunities (including cross-selling opportunities) within existing and new client base.
  • Take responsibility for a significant number of new business development projects.
  • Promote the Company within and outside the Willis Group.
  • To provide technical advice on request within the Practice

INSURANCE

  • Liaison with insurance/reinsurance brokers, risk consultants and claims personnel, as required.
  • Assessment of exposures and risk transfer pricing.
  • Using experience to consult on regulatory approval requirements.

FINANCE

  • Monitoring and advising on:
    • domicile solvency and capital requirements
    • captive regulatory frameworks
    • underwriting drivers for Captives
    • reserving methodology
    • captive management accounts, statutory accounts and information, budgets, cash flow statements and supplementary information as required.
    • corporate Governance compliance requirement.

 

MANAGEMENT

  • To provide leadership on, participate in and provide input on strategic and major operational issues.  Assume responsibility for a specific area of company strategy;
  • To implement policies adopted by the team;
  • Contact is maintained with all client directors;
  • Keep leadership apprised of pipeline, sales and project developments;
  • Ensure timely development and delivery of consulting projects;
  • Entertain clients & prospects, as required.

Skills & Knowledge/Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of captive insurance and insurance industry (minimum 5 years
  • experience; more than 5 years preferred) in the following areas: (1) captive consulting (2) captive
  • management (3) insurance products (4) consulting for corporates (5) problem resolution
  • English & Dutch - Fluent
  • Entrepreneurship, ability to monitor quality control
  • Client relationship skills
  • Project Management skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability solve complex issues and will raise highly complex issues to higher level
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferred: reinsurance and Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) knowledge/skills
  • Preferred: 4 year degree in Accounting, Finance or related area, CPA qualification and/or ACII  or similar qualifications
  • Advanced Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office package)

Persons with strong personal skills that can quickly demonstrate trust and professionalism to broker colleagues / introducers and clients / prospects. 

The individual must be able to multi-task as the role will have several work streams active at any one particular time and have a strong analytical mind set. Project work is deadline driven and the individual must be able to work to agreed reporting deadlines.

An insurance professional with a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience with an understanding of insurance and reinsurance market practice relating to the captive industry.

A core understanding of captive management suite of service deliverables gained by working in captive management industry would be a distinct advantage.

As the role is in a sales environment you will need to have an outgoing and engaging personality and demonstrate enthusiasm to complete projects and strive to exceed client expectations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for creating captive consulting opportunities, project proposals and close sales to record one off consultancy income for SRC.

You will work under guidance from DoCA to deliver presentations to large corporate clients and prospects of WTW. The objective of such presentations / client meetings is to demonstrate the benefits of contracting with us to deliver captive advisory services.

You will also help in the promotion across Europe of GCP products through a systematic sales campaign led by the lead promotors known as the Champions, with DoCA’s endorsement.

The delivery of consultancy projects will typically entail contribution for various people within SRC and GCP. Depending upon experience your role in the initial year can be either expected to be one of co-ordinator / controller of projects to ensure that we meet agreed client timelines and expectations or already to take the role of key contributor to the reports (once again, depending upon experience).

There will be a requirement to support from time to time our global client relationship leads in tender bids and defence where there is captive advisory/management contribution/ input required.

There will be a requirement to contribute and assist in the up keep of marketing materials for SRC and GCP.

We operate a sales activity recording systems called “CRM” and “DMT” and you will be required to log and maintain captive related sales enquiries/opportunities.
