In the Netherlands we are looking for a Consultant International Water and Climate Projects

Your work environment

As Consultant International Water and Climate projects you will be working on a broad range of national and international projects with emphasis on water resources management and climate adaptation. You will join the Natural Resources team that is working on national, EU and international projects in these areas. Our activities consist of financial and economic studies (feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, evaluations) consultancy, and project and program management. Our clients are mainly regional and national governments in the Netherlands, the European Union and International Financing Institutions funding projects in developing countries. We also work for private organizations and financial institutions.

What will you do?

As a team member you are expected to contribute to further development of the portfolio of international projects in the field of integrated water resource management, urbanizing delta’s and climate adaptation. Apart from identification and acquisition of new business opportunities, we expect you to lead project teams and be responsible for project implementation. You will coordinate and maintain a network of national and international experts, partners and clients and support junior consultants in their work. The position will be based in Rotterdam, and you are expected to work mainly on projects in developing countries, involving short term missions. Occasionally work from our Amsterdam office or from home is possible. Although international projects will be your main focus, it is important that you will be able to work on similar assignments for national and/or EU clients as well.

What you will bring?

We are looking for an entrepreneurial consultant with the following qualifications:

  • Strong economic background, i.e. Masters degree in Economics or Finance,  proven experience in carrying out ex ante financial-economic analysis (e.g. feasibility studies, including cost benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, business cases);
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience as an economist in international public infrastructure development projects, proven by implemented assignments and projects in this field (expertise with water management, climate adaptation, drinking water & sanitation or urbanizing deltas is a strong benefit);
  • Network among (international) clients, donors and cooperation partners; 
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Proven commercial skills – preferably within a consultancy environment;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and preferably Dutch. Good language skills in any other major European language would be an asset;
  • Ability to work in the Netherlands, EU and the rest of the world and willingness to travel frequently.
