For the Sector Natural Resources of Ecorys in the Netherlands we are regularly looking for a Senior (Renewable) Energy Consultant

Your workplace environment

You will join the Natural Resources team that is working on national and European projects in the areas of energy, environment and climate change. Our activities consist mostly of economic and policy studies (e.g. assessments of new renewable energy technologies, cost-benefit analyses, evaluations), consultancy (e.g. business case assessments, strategic advice regulatory work). Our clients include European institutions, national and regional governments in the Netherlands as well as semi-public and private enterprises and NGO’s. 

Examples of questions dealt with by the sector are:

  • What has been the impact of EU actions supporting the development of renewable energy technologies?
  • What is the value of clean water?
  • What are the social costs and benefits of investments to minimise flood risks?
  • What changes in the design of electricity markets are necessary to ensure security of supply?
  • What could be the role of advanced biofuels in the future energy system?
  • What is the business case of investing in district heating?
  • What kind of regulation is needed to safeguard public interests in hydrogen transport?
  • How can we make the energy transition affordable? How can we enhance competitiveness?
  • How could the EU become world leader in a particular renewable energy technology?
  • What are the social costs and benefits of different pathways to achieve the energy transition?
  • How to phase out fossil fuels?

What will you be doing?

You take the lead in business development and project management, supported by your team members, based on sound content knowledge. You are a recognised expert in the field and have good working relationships with major players in your domain. The core of your expertise related to the energy transition lies in one of these domains: industry, mobility, electricity or built environment. Your focus should either be on the Dutch market or on European institutions – where synergies could be achieved that would be an asset. A proven track record in winning work coupled with high quality project delivery would be an asset. 

Major tasks include:

  • To undertake targeted business development and build relationships with clients to advance the company's profile and ability to help clients;
  • Project management including overseeing project delivery, quality control of delivered services, client orientation and conflict resolution;
  • To lead and provide high quality written inputs to reports, presentations, and other research and consultancy outputs;
  • To present the firm’s view on the energy transition and its impacts on relevant areas and markets;
  • To build strong working relationships with colleagues from other sectors and partner organisations;
  • To identify and respond to appropriate project opportunities from clients and liaise with parts of the company and partner organisations to achieve a coordinated response;
  • To inspire and coach your team members to further their personal development and the development of the practice. 

What will you bring? 

  • MSc or PhD in Economics or other relevant field, complemented by at least 6 years relevant work experience;
  • Experience as an energy economist/engineer in consultancy with proven project management experience;
  • In-depth knowledge of energy policy and its (potential) impact on clients;
  • Highly motivated with strong communication-, marketing-, and business development skills;
  • Relevant network, at European Commission level and/or in the Netherlands;
  • Fluency in English and Dutch as well as the ability to work in both languages. Other language capabilities would be an asset.
