Your role

As a senior consultant you will work in a team of motivated international development professionals on projects building responsive and accountable institutions, promoting inclusive political processes and fostering resilient state-society relations across the world.

You will implement assignments ranging from long-term Technical Assistance to short-term consultancy (including travel abroad), for a variety of clients. We currently deliver projects funded by the European Union, FCDO (UKaid), Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SECO, other bilateral donors, UN, World Bank, as well as national and local governments.

You will be responsible for winning, managing and delivering assignments in the fields of Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law, Migration & Conflict Prevention and Resolution as well as Peacebuilding and Security. You will be involved in the full range of consulting responsibilities: business development, project implementation, policy research and advice and team management. You will actively contribute to further developing our portfolio in these fields and to mentoring junior colleagues. You have a clear client-orientation, and are up to date with trends and developments in the fields mentioned above. In addition, you have relevant experience in at least one (but ideally more) of our service areas: policy and programme design; technical assistance and capacity building; or research, monitoring and evaluation.

Role and responsibilities

More specifically your roles and responsibilities will be:

  • To manage large and complex (international) projects;
  • To implement assignments involving high quality research, project management and policy advice;
  • To liaise with current and potential partners and build networks of organisations and experts;
  • To undertake targeted pro-active business development activities and to manage bid teams and prepare successful project proposals; and
  • To be an active member of the team, contributing ideas and suggestions.

Qualifications and experience

  • Graduated at university level in International Development, International Relations, International Law or other relevant disciplines;
  • At least seven years’ professional experience in Governance and Peacebuilding;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in at least one of the following service areas: Policy and Programme Design; Technical Assistance and Capacity Building; or Research, Monitoring and Evaluation
  • At least 2 years direct relevant field experience having worked in development and/or fragile/post-conflict settings;
  • Analytical capacity and excellent ability in drafting and coordination of high-quality research reports/outputs;
  • Commercial drive and awareness, as well as experience with business development and project proposal writing; and
  • Fluency in written and spoken English – working knowledge of French would be a strong asset.
