Do you like the idea of working in a multidisciplinary team that contributes to the defence and security of the Netherlands? And how about helping the public sector with organisational transformations, research and capital-intensive projects? Does getting to grips with the security ecosystem and gaining valuable consultancy skills inspire you? If so, an internship in our Operations Defence & Security team within PwC's Public Sector Consulting department could be just what you're looking for!

What will your work involve?

Our team works across vision and strategy through to execution in the defence and security domain. We advise organisations on a wide range of issues. They include capital-intensive investment projects in real estate, equipment, IT and security, improvements within primary and support organisational processes, organisational design and futureproofing organisations and their peoples. We also carry out research (including policy-related research) for our clients on numerous subjects. An example of our assignments is supporting the Ministry of Defence in procuring large weapon and other systems: aircraft, vehicles, and maritime platforms. The team

We are a high performing and cohesive team, where individuals are supported to shine. The team consists of highly driven consultants with an affinity for the public sector and defence and security and who want to devote themselves to socially relevant work. With studies such as international relations, social geography, aerospace engineering and law, we approach our assignments and learn from each other from various angles. Who are you?  

You are an ambitious and talented student with an affinity for, or interest in, systems engineering and financial logistic analyses such as life cycle cost analysis. You want to work on your career, contribute to socially relevant issues and get the best out of yourself and your colleagues. You also enjoy working in a team, are enthusiastic and genuinely motivated to help our clients. You take a good-humoured approach to your work and meet the following requirements:

  • You are in the graduation phase of your academic Master's in a technical field of study, such as mathematics, econometrics, physics, engineering or computer science;

  • You have outstanding analytical abilities, are pragmatic, flexible and possess good communication skills;

  • You enjoy finding practical and creative ways to analyse and address new issues;

  • You are enthusiastic about assignments with a significant social impact and advocacy from senior personnel high-level contacts within the client organisation;

  • You are fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written. 

What will your internship entail?

You will spend about half the week working with a small team at the client's offices, where you will be coached on the job by experienced colleagues to maximise your learning. You will spend the other half of the week working on your graduation research (a different ratio is also possible with consultation). The subject of this research is decided in consultation with PwC. PwC provides, wherever possible, the necessary tools, connections, and possibly the data needed to carry out the research successfully.

The defence team is a close-knit group with a strong sense of team spirit. Our diversity means that we learn from one another every day. The team is part of PwC's public sector consulting practice. This group consists of about 120 professionals operating in the public sector. All public sector consultants have an affinity with the public sector and are dedicated to socially relevant assignments. The team works on inspiring assignments at home and abroad.
