Advisory services/Performance Improvement EMEIA Financial Services Group
Ernst & Young Financial Services Advisory offers advisory services to clients in all sectors of the financial services industry. This business line renders advice to clients on performance improvement and risk management. With the formation of the Ernst & Young EMEIA organisation (mid 2008) as well as the recent developments in the financial markets, the firm sees new opportunities for Advisory.  With the new geographical (i.e. regional) organization, Ernst & Young has created a proposition reflecting the way that its clients are organized providing access to bigger and more experienced teams.

The newly formatted Performance Improvement Sub-Service Line (SSL) renders advice in the following five competency areas: Finance, Operations, Enablement (incl. Program Advisory and IT Advisory), and Customer Management. It supports organisations with regard to developing methods and tools for effective strategic and operational management. The firm’s consultants service their clients through multi-disciplined SSLs, and cooperate closely with other SSLs such as Risk Services, Financial Services Risk Management, Technology & Security Risk Assurance and the Actuarial Advisory Services. Performance Improvement (PI) focuses on the potential performance improvement of clients through the operations in the back-office as well as the front office. Consequently, it will be crucial that there is an intensive relationship and excellent cooperation between Finance and Operations teams.

In addition to the strong existing Assurance Practice in the Netherlands, Ernst & Young has the goal to further expand its Advisory Services. Out of the above mentioned five areas, the newly formatted Performance Improvement EMEIA Financial Services Group identified four areas of focus:

  • Customer Transformation
  • Finance Transformation
  • Operations Transformation
  • Business Enablement (which comprises Program Advisory Services and IT Advisory Services)

At this stage, the main focus of the Performance Improvement sub service line will be on operations and finance transformation. This will require leaders at Partner level. At this stage in the growth model, the organisation is seeking to hire a Partner who will focus on Operations.

Ernst & Young’s Performance Improvement EMEIA Financial Services Group is looking for a Partner Operations to lead, develop and grow the Group in the Netherlands and to co-ordinate the growth in the international network of the company.

In general terms responsibilities include:

  • Practice management – Leading the development and growth of the respective areas of responsibility. Managing the practice, including billing, budgets, staffing and resource allocation. Expanding the current team with new hires. Coaching team members with skills and career development;
  • Delivery – Managing service delivery, coordinating and executing the delivery of high-quality specific client project activities. Ensuring quality delivery and client satisfaction;
  • Acquisition – Developing eminence in the market place. Developing, managing and enhancing strong client relationships. Ensuring follow up on new business opportunities.

More specifically, the Partner Operations will focus on the following Group capabilities:

  • Enterprise cost reduction
  • Process transformation
  • Sales & Service Management
  • Post merger integration
  • Procurement transformation
  • Value management
  • Operating model review & design

The market perspective for the Partner Operations, which forms the Process Transformation Framework, consists of the following parts:

  • Capital Markets
  • Retail/Corporate Banking
  • Insurance
  • Asset Management & Private Banking

The final candidate will have at least 10-15 years of wide-ranging working experience. S/he brings relevant financial services experience, which can be directly linked to E&Y’s Process Transformation Framework. S/he possesses a true growth mindset.

It is deemed essential that s/he can demonstrate experience and leadership in transformation. S/he can act ‘on the edge’ of operations and enablement, which goes beyond program management only. As such, candidates will have a proven and successful track record in the area of performance transformation. It is also considered advantageous for potential candidates to bring a proven track record of running their own P&L as candidates for these positions are expected to have and bring content to their role. This will allow them to demonstrate deep and distinctive insights on their key industry and client business issues, critical success factors, best practices, and solutions in the areas of interest. The final candidate has Board room presence and demonstrated market recognition and ability to create and develop new business.

Important for the new Partner is that s/he has the ability to work in E&Y’s client model. This model is dynamic and is characterised by evolving client expectations and increasing product commoditisation. Furthermore, the Partner feels comfortable in dealing with an expanding regulatory environment and changing ethical landscape within a setting of further globalisation. Last but not least, the candidate is technology savvy and understands the role of it in transformation scenarios.

Summarising, Ernst & Young is looking for a ‘real’ Partner who can lead, develop and grow its Advisory Services in and out of the Netherlands and who has the ability to co-lead the performance transformation as part of the Performance Improvement EMEIA Financial Services Group. Candidates for this role bring a high level of ambition and a true international mindset.
